Indoor comfort: ventilation, heating and arrival information

Comfort depends on understanding how the property works.

An unfamiliar property may respond differently from your home to heating and open windows. Take a little time on arrival to understand its equipment and guidance. Focus on ventilation in bedrooms, bathroom and living areas, and establish which settings guests may change themselves.

Understand installed systems

Ask about thermostats, ventilation equipment and any timed settings. Underfloor heating responds differently from a quick radiator, so repeated large changes may achieve little. Keep heating surfaces and vents clear of luggage. For unfamiliar displays or unusual behaviour, contact the property representative instead of opening covers or altering technical components.

Remove moisture after activities

Showers, cooking and wet clothing add moisture indoors. Consumer advice explains suitable air exchange and the relationship between heating and ventilation. Account for the individual equipment: a windowless bathroom may have its own ventilation system. Keep its opening clear. Dry larger amounts of laundry only in the permitted place, not directly on heating appliances.

Report observations factually

Persistent musty smells, visible damp patches or heating that does not work should be reported early. Describe the room, time and observation without diagnosing the cause yourself. Leave windows open during absences only as agreed. Suitable shading and room arrangements agreed with the group can also support sleep rather than assuming everyone wants identical temperatures.

Common questions

Should I switch off a ventilation system?

Not without instructions. It may form part of the building’s intended moisture and air management.

Should I remove suspected mould myself?

Report suspicious areas. Using unfamiliar treatment products is not an appropriate first response.
